A Grand Cru champagne made and bottled in Verzy by Champagne Cuperly for the Caroline Dufour label in Reims. Made from 100% Pinot Noir grown in Grand Cru villages, sold as a case of 6 x 75cl bottles.
This is the complex, gastronomic side of Champagne: more body, more red-fruit character; the intense, fresh fruit aromas made me think of blackberry picking when I was a child. The Montagne de Reims, where the vines are located, is the heartland for this style.
From Caroline’s technical sheet:
Grand Cru vineyards in Verzy, Mailly-Champagne, Verzenay, Bouzy and Aÿ.
100% Pinot Noir, fermented in 300-litre French oak barrels, without malolactic fermentation; two thirds wine from the current vintage, one third reserve wines aged in oak.
Four to five years on the lees in bottle.
Dosage: Brut, 6 g/l.
