Meet Meuriot Cameron

Alex and Julieta work on a very small scale in Beaune, buying nothing in and making the wine themselves from their own fruit. That scale is what makes an exclusive arrangement like ours possible at all: there is not enough wine for a big importer to be interested, and that suits both of us.

The Bourgogne Pinot Noir drinks well above its appellation, which is the whole argument for buying Bourgogne Rouge from someone who farms well rather than from someone with a famous name. The Pommard Les Vignots is the other end of the range: mature Burgundy from a strong site and a strong vintage, at a price that is getting hard to find anywhere.

Alex is a friend first

Alex Meuriot is a good friend and a well-respected figure in Burgundy. I bought the remaining stock of the Bourgogne Rouge 2019 because it is exceptional value, and the Pommard is the wine in the portfolio I am personally most attached to.

I met Alex in Beaune in 2014. He was running a local’s bar, I was a tech executive. This was the day a hailstorm swept through the Cote de Beaune, destroying up to 80% of that year’s crop in the surrounding villages. The bar was full of vignerons whose year’s work had been wiped out in ten minutes. Spending time with them, and with Alex, was the single most impactful experience in my understanding of Burgundy.

Over a decade later, we’re still pals. He’s now producing his own wine, and I’m now a wine merchant and his exclusive UK importer.

How buying works

Every wine on this page can be bought two ways. Duty paid, delivered to your door anywhere in the UK, with duty and VAT already included in the price. Or, for wine you are keeping rather than drinking now, in bond at London City Bond. The wine stays under temperature-controlled professional storage, and the duty and VAT fall due only when it comes out.

Allocations and small parcels go to the private client list before they reach the website. If you’re not sure which one suits, book a chat or drop a message via WhatsApp.

One more thing that follows from exclusivity: when a parcel sells through, it is gone until the next one arrives.
