Champagne Caroline Dufour

Two single-grape Grand Cru Champagnes, made in Verzy for Caroline Dufour

Two Grand Cru cuvées with distinctly different characters: The Blanc de Blancs is 100% Chardonnay; the Blanc de Noirs is 100% Pinot Noir. Both are made entirely from fruit grown in Grand Cru villages, fermented in 300-litre French oak and aged for years on the lees.

The wines are made and bottled in Verzy by Champagne Cuperly, a family-owned house founded in 1845, for the Caroline Dufour label in Reims. WineVistas is the first and only UK importer of the Caroline Dufour marque.

Grand Cru Pedigree

Just 17 of Champagne’s 319 villages hold the Grand Cru classification, and every grape in these wines comes from them.

This is champagne with a point of view. The familiar non-vintage style of a large Champagne house is created by blending across numerous vineyards, grape varieties and reserve wines. These wines offer something different: each is made from a single grape variety from named Grand Cru villages. The Blanc de Blancs gives you the precision and freshness of Chardonnay; the Blanc de Noirs gives you the greater structure and savoury depth of Pinot Noir.

In May 2026, the Blanc de Blancs was placed first in a blind tasting against Champagnes from several well-known houses at a Michelin-starred London restaurant.

The first cuvées of Champagne Caroline Dufour to arrive in the UK are the Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru NV, launching at The Business End Andy Gomarsall Lunch in Brighton on 4 September, and the Blanc de Noirs Grand Cru NV.

The Wines

Blanc de Blancs: 100% Chardonnay from Grand Cru vineyards in Verzy and Verzenay in the Montagne de Reims, with approximately 5% coming from Le Mesnil sur Oger in the Côte des Blancs.

Bright citrus and apple, with brioche and toast. Precise enough for an aperitif, but with sufficient depth for shellfish or grilled fish.

Blanc de Noirs: 100% Pinot Noir from Grand Cru vineyards in Verzy, Mailly-Champagne, Verzenay, Bouzy and Aÿ.

Almonds, citrus and dried-fruit depth on the palate allow it to pair well with food. Fuller, more structured and savoury, it drinks beautifully alone or paired with smoked salmon or roast chicken.

How we found Champagne Caroline Dufour

In May 2026, The Champagne Caroline Dufour Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs was placed first in a blind tasting against champagnes from well-known houses at a Michelin-starred restaurant in London. I hadn’t encountered the label before, and I couldn’t find a UK distributor, so I drove to Reims to meet Caroline and taste for myself.

What I found

Behind the doors of an Art Deco house, with beautiful stained-glass windows, I met a formidable businesswoman, a born Champenoise. The label is hers; the wines are made and bottled for her in Verzy by Champagne Cuperly, a family-owned house with eight generations of history behind it. Tasting the two cuvées together made their purpose clear: one gives a precise expression of Chardonnay, the other the structure and depth of Pinot Noir. I could see how the Blanc de Blancs had come out on top in London.

I placed an order a week later.

I later learned that the glass was the work of Jacques Simon, of the Reims workshop that rescued the cathedral’s windows under shellfire in the First World War. Fifty years on, the same workshop made Marc Chagall’s windows for the cathedral.
